Team names for every occasion
Team names for work
For an office quiz, a project squad or a sales team: Funny for a social event, Tech for an engineering team. Pick one you would be happy to hear read out in front of your manager.
Trivia and quiz night
Funny names win the room at a pub quiz. Shuffle until one gets a laugh at the table.
Hackathon and game jam teams
Tech names suit a hackathon, Epic ones a game jam. Short enough to read from a stage and to fit on a certificate.
Sports and tournaments
Epic and Animal names work for a five-a-side league, a chess club or a bowling night.
Classes and school houses
Animal names make friendly group names for a classroom: no in-jokes, easy to say.
Esports and gaming clans
Epic names are built for a clan tag or a tournament bracket.
How it works
Each name pairs a describing word with a noun, drawn from a word list written for that style. Nothing is repeated within a single draw.
Tech leans on engineering vocabulary, Funny goes for the light-hearted, Epic reaches for the dramatic, and Animal does what it says.
Picking a name that works
A team name gets read aloud from a stage, typed into a submission form and printed on a certificate. Short beats clever: two words that a host can pronounce on the first try will serve you better than something that needs explaining.
If a name has to be spelled out over a microphone, it is the wrong name.
Questions
- What style works for a work team?
- Funny for a quiz or a social event, Tech for an engineering or product team. If you would not want it read out in front of your manager, shuffle again.
- Can I get more than ten names?
- Yes. Choose 20 and shuffle as often as you like. Every draw is different, and no word repeats within one.
- Are the names unique?
- Names are combined from word lists, so two teams anywhere in the world could land on the same one. Within a single draw there are no duplicates.
- Can I use these commercially?
- Yes. Take any name you like — there is nothing to attribute and no strings attached.
- Is anything stored?
- No. Everything happens in your browser.
