How it works
Paste your list of names, one per line. Commas work too, so a list copied out of a spreadsheet or a chat message is fine.
Choose whether you want a fixed number of teams or a fixed team size. The generator shuffles the list and deals names out one at a time, so team sizes never differ by more than one person.

Why draw teams at random
When a person picks the teams, somebody always asks why they ended up where they did. When a randomiser picks them, that conversation does not happen — which is the real reason teachers, coaches and facilitators reach for one.
Reshuffling regularly also stops the same cliques re-forming week after week, and gives quieter participants a chance to work with people they would not have chosen.

- Is anything I paste stored?
- No. The tool runs entirely in your browser — your list never leaves your device and we never see it.
- What if the names do not divide evenly?
- The generator deals names out one at a time, so the leftovers spread across teams. Sizes differ by at most one person.
- Can I balance teams by skill instead of at random?
- Not here — this tool is deliberately random. Balancing by skill needs to know something about each person, which is what our platform's team formation does.
- Is there a limit on how many names?
- No hard limit. It comfortably handles a few hundred.
Running a real event?
